Created in 1933, the Geneva Private Bankers Association has four members:
- Bordier & Cie, founded in 1844
- Lombard Odier & Cie, founded in 1796
- Mirabaud & Cie, founded in 1819
- Pictet & Cie, founded in 1805
Historically, the "Groupement", as the association is known, owes its origin to the disappearance of the so-called "Financial Union" which acted on behalf of the Geneva Private Bankers, particularly in the area of Swiss loan and share issues, until the beginning of the 1930s.
The Great Depression of the 1930s and the Second World War encouraged the Geneva Private Bankers to further strengthen the links which had always held them together. Furthermore, their specialisation in asset management also reinforced the common vision of their profession of bankers. It enabled them to develop many areas in which they could work together.
Main activities
It is above all as representative of the professional interests of the Geneva Private Bankers that the "Groupement" is recognised. Speaking with one voice and with the backing of a permanent secretariat which, since 1992, has also managed the Swiss Private Bankers Association (SPBA), the private bankers are well-represented within the main professional associations at cantonal and national levels, be they of a general economic nature or purely banking. Either directly or through the SPBA, the Geneva Private Bankers are regularly consulted by both the federal and cantonal authorities, against whom they defend the interests of the Geneva financial centre.
